The standard is applicable to circuit-breakers in accordance with IEC 62271-100 that are used to switch high-voltage motor currents and shunt reactor currents and also to high-voltage contactors used to switch high-voltage motor currents. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition dated 2005 and constitutes an editorial revision. The main changes from the first edition are that all references to IEC 60694 have been replaced by IEC 62271-1. This publication is to be read in conjunction with IEC 62271-1:2007 and IEC 62271-100:2008 .
