Provides a generally acceptable basis for measuring and reporting the principal performance parameters of complete diagnostic systems. The performance parameters specified, and the corresponding methods of measurement, have been chosen in order to provide a basis for comparison between similar apparatus of different makes intended for the same kind of diagnostic application. The set of results and values obtained from the use of the recommended methods will provide useful criteria for predicting the performance of equipment in appropriate diagnostic applications. In order that the recommendations should be suitable for general applications, methods have been specified which do not require unusual and expensive equipment for their implementation. Where one basic diagnostic system accommodates more than one option in respect of a particular system component, such as the transducer, it is intended that, wherever appropriate, each option be regarded as a separate system.
